Port d’Alcúdia is the most extensive tourist area on the north coast. Its sandy beach runs for about 10 km to the south of the marina and houses the largest commercial port on the island from where you can catch a ferry to Minorca The Ma-12 Road from Port d’Alcudia runs along the north coast of Artà, taking in the S’Albufera wetlands natural reserve (a must-see for birdwatchers), as well as the beaches and bustling tourist centres of Can Picafort and Playa de Muro. Golf lovers visiting the area of Alcúdia and Port d’Alcúdia, and more specifically Alcanada, can tee up at its excellent 18-hole course, which provides spectacular views of the bay. There are also numerous opportunities to do water activities.
PEGUERA
SURROUNDED BY BEACHES
Peguera – also known as Paguera – is a tourist complex located in the municipality of Calvià, Majorca, nicknamed “Little Germany” by many due to its popularity with German visitors. The complex lies 6 km north of Santa Ponsa and is near Camp de Mar, and boasts three beaches of fine sand: Peguera Romana, Torà and Palmira de Peguera, with all the amenities that any tourist seeking a day of sun, fun and sea could wish for. Peguera is also an excellent spot to choose if you want to explore the natural setting of the south-west of Majorca, since it provides good access to rambling routes, and is also a short distance away from some of the villages of the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range. The community is totally international; Peguera is famous for its cleanliness, and the centre of Peguera houses all kind of services and restaurants for tourists. Peguera is also directly connected to the motorway to Palma, which is 30 minutes away.
PLAYA DE PALMA
BEACHES AND RECREATION: THE PERFECT MIX
Playa de Palma is located just a few minutes from the capital, Palma de Mallorca, with 4 kilometres of beaches that comprise the municipalities of Palma and Llucmajor, from Can Pastilla to el Arenal. Playa de Palma has all kinds of leisure and recreational activities for all ages. It is the ideal spot for cycling tourism, and a point of departure for several bike routes that run along the coast, taking in the municipalities of Llucmajor and Campos. There is also a pedestrian walkway with a bike lane. The offer is complemented by the night-life possibilities, with an excellent atmosphere in its terraces and discotheques. The coast is peppered with several bars with terraces known as Ballermann, particularly Ballermann 6, a favourite haunt with German tourists.
PLAYA DE MURO
ENJOYMENT AND RELAXATION IN A SINGLE SPOT
Playa de Muro is Majorca’s longest sandy beach and includes four stretches that cover a total of six kilometres. Located in the village of Muro, near Alcudia, on the North West coast of the island, each one of the four beaches that make up Playa de Muro are white sand and some of them have sand dunes. Playa de Muro is ideal for all age groups and feature services for tourists and local residents. It is a beach that is highly popular with families, because it is easy to access, with restaurants and installations on the actual beach, activities focusing on the younger members of the family, such as kiddie areas, and its exceptionally shallow water, where you only begin to notice the depth after you have walked quite a distance into the sea. Playa de Muro is a very popular point of departure for holidays, with large hotels and apartments for rental a short walk away from the beach.
